RAD, one of the greatest movies of the 1980'sHave you seen this gem? Have you experienced the tubular soundtrack? Have you been witness to the incredible bicycle boogie? If any of these things are foreign to you then do yourself a favor and experience the BMX movie RAD.
1986. BMX was hot, fluorescents were lighting up the landscape and RAD hit the scene. A direct to VHS release this movie caught fire in movie rental stores all over. Main character Cru Jones and his dream to hit it big in the BMX pro scene captured a lot of kids imaginations of being "the best", mine included. Granted I caught this movie a few years after its release but damn did I watch the hell out of it, the tattered VHS case tells the tale:
|MOM! Where did you get this copy?!|
Here is the quick version of the movie; Cru Jones a young dude in a small town dreams of being Pro BMX material. Shenanigans with his buddies ensue including a nice segment involving a time trial/paper route with some rad music. A big time BMX competition is announced at for the small town for ...wait for it...HELL TRACK, a new completely crazy race course. It is announced someone from the town (wonder who) will get to race hell track. The pro's hit the town with hottie Christian in tow, love finds its way between Cru and Christian but no before we hit the bicycle boogie! Yes, bicycle boogie, the dance of the BMX which needs to be seen to be believed. Time trials for hell track are on, Cru gets crazy and, well you need to watch it for the ending!
This movie has it all, ALL! I cannot express how incredibly 80's this movie is and just how good it is. It is my ultimate 80's flick and I feel anyone reading this needs to go find a bootleg (since there is NO DVD) and watch for themselves.
